This image is not my work, but I thought it shows my growth and learning this year by representing my progress as an artist.
1)What expectations did I have of Biology/ Environmental Science at the start of the year?
I was excited to take Biology, because I have a passion for science and I really enjoy learning about the aspects of the human body, but taking a creative perspective and working on anatomically correct drawings and realistic diagrams of the fetal pig dissection took me by surprise.
2)Describe a memorable moment when your perspective of what it means to be a scientist changed or was challenged?
When we worked on the abstracted observation. We took aspects of the campus we are on, and created abstractions of those areas. I really struggled being detail oriented in these drawings, and rushed my art. I also struggled with the concept of how the creative process applies to the scientific process. I realized that both processes require you to be detail oriented and specific of your findings.
3)How have I evolved as a scientist?
I have learned how the artistic process and scientific process collide, and how I can use aspects from both to apply to one another.
