In this unit we started by learning about forces and how they surround us everyday. Forces like gravity, friction, and inertia( mass). We then stared to calculate FMA or Force, Mass, Acceleration, by using Triangle math. I learned the most about this topic through drawing free body diagrams, where we drew a box and arrows to represent the forces being acted upon the box. After that, we learned about Sir Issac Newton and how he affected the science world through his discoveries on gravity, calculus, theology, and the lesser known, alchemy. I learned the most through watching the documentary on him. We then started working on trigonometry. We learned about SOHCAHTOA (sine=opposite/hypotenuse, cosine=adjacent/hypotenuse, tangent=opposite/adjacent) and how to solve for sine, cosine, or tangent using triangle math as well. I learned the most from the sohcahtoa song because it was really catchy and I will remember it for a long time. We are learning trigonometry because we are starting a project where we build and fly our own drones and we need trigonometry so that our drones fly in the direction we want them to.
I really liked this unit because I really like learning new things and I really enjoyed how Ms. Quinlan allowed us to take our time and learn at our own pace, but still held us accountable. In this unit I am most proud of how I persevered and made sure that if I was struggling, I would ask for help and get caught up. At one point, I had no idea what was going on and it just got too complicated for me. I asked my peers for help and they really helped me get the hang of it and get back on track. |
