History from Above
Essential Questions
How can we use the mistakes and triumphs of WWII to guide our actions in Syria?
To navigate through the question of what to do about Syria is very complex. As straightforward as it seems, This war is not just between the good guys and the bad guys. This is a civil war between strong beliefs. This essential question is one that is open to many interpretations, depending on what you define as a triumph. One could say that the creation of the nuclear bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima was a triumph. So in my opinion, the Syrian conflict is a totally different situation than WWII and should be treated as such.
Does History have to repeat itself?
For history to become history, it has to make an impact. WWII is the most talked about world war because of the impact it had on so many different cultures. I think that History can repeat itself in any shape or form. For example, the conflict in the Middle East is similar to WWII in the way massive amounts of a minority are being slaughtered because of a belief in a religion.
