Harassment and bullying zine group
I have developed as a teen advocate because I have created an outlet to inform people about gender based street harassment. I did this with my persuasive essay and zine. I made sure to keep my essay engaging and packed to the brim with statistics to prove how often street harassment happens. I want people to know that they are not the only ones who have experienced street harassment, and I want people to know how they can protect themselves from it escalating into physical assault.
I learned a lot about the basic needs and a teen’s specialized neurobiology throughout this project. We did a lot of visual note taking and annotating articles about the difference between the teenage brain and the adult brain. At the beginning of the semester, I did not know that there was a difference between the adult brain and the teen brain. I also understood that there were basic needs that have to be met in order to survive but I did not know that there was social needs that needed to be met in order to live a healthy life.
Through the lens of my social topic which was gender based street harassment, the social needs that are not being met because of this issue are status, fairness, and certainty.
